Crews recover body of missing teenager from Cass Lake

Family and loved ones will gather Monday to remember a Dearborn teenager who drowned in a Waterford lake over the weekend.

Mohammad Wutwut, 15, disappeared into the water while he was out swimming with friends on Cass Lake Saturday afternoon. Witnesses say he was about 1,000 feet from shore when they saw him struggling to stay afloat. Crews worked tirelessly throughout the night before finding his body 300 feet from shore about five hours later.

The Waterford Police Departments, it's Regional Fire Department, and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and Dive Team helped in the recovery.

Wutwut was a member of the Star International Academy football team. His family says he was very fond of sports and wanted to become a professional athlete. Wutwut was one of nine children.

"The fondest memories of Mo is that he was such an inspirational person. He was always so kind; so generous. He was such a loving person. His heart was too pure for him to stay on this earth," says his sister, Batool Wutwut.

The family's mosque has set up a Gofundme account to help raise money for the teenager's funeral. If you would like to donate, CLICK HERE.
