Detroit police car stolen, recovered on city's east side

A Detroit police car was stolen Monday night on the city's east side.

In the 7400 block of Gratiot, and off-duty officer made a stop at a mobile phone store and got out with the key fob. According to Detroit police, that was when a suspect got inside the Dodge Charger and drove off.

The car, a marked patrol officer unit, was recovered in the area of Van Dyke and Kercheval when police made a traffic stop and the suspect surrendered and was arrested.

There were no damages to the car and neither the officer of suspect were injured. The suspect appeared to be under the influence and was transported to a nearby hospital for observation.
