Families seeking donations after Detroit house fire kills 2-year-old boy

(DETROIT) FOX 2 - Khamari Livingston died Friday, the only person who did not survive the house fire on Mackay and Lawly in Detroit on the Hamtramck border. 

It was Michelle Currie’s house, but she has been taking care of her sister in Southgate, otherwise she would have been home when the house caught fire. 

“I don't even know how to feel right now because I feel like I was blessed but I still feel like, why that one baby under my roof,” Currie said. 

All together eight people were inside and five of them were small children, including Currie's grachildren. They were sleeping when the fire happened. Two of the victims were sent to the hospital with burns.

“I feel like if I would have been there it would have been totally different because I’m up at night and if anything would have been out of the ordinary I would have been able to see it or know it was something wrong,” she said. 

Fire investigators say it was an electrical fire. The people inside got out with nothing so Michelle’s sister is collecting donations. 

“Pampers, milk, bottles, clothes, shoes, underwear, food,” Currie said.

Ultimately they are going to have to find a new place to live.

"It's tragic what happened but in tragedy sometimes we don't see that way but there is always a blessing comes out of it,” Currie said.
