Family of woman struck in hit-and-run seeks closure

DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are searching for the driver of a vehicle responsible for hitting a woman and taking off. 

The 58-year-old woman was hit Monday around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Van Dyke and Outer Drive on the city's northeast side. The driver pulled into a nearby CVS parking lot, then took off southbound on Van Dyke.

The family of Cheryl Weber wants whoever hit her to come forward - as they hold tight to one another and put their faith in God.

Police say Weber was critically injured in the accident. She passed away later at the hospital. 

"I forgive him. He has to face the Lord one day, but our family forgives him. We would like for him to come forward; we know it's hard," said Christina Weber-Teart, Weber's daughter.

Police are looking for a Pontiac G6 with front end damage and a wind shield that's cracked inward on the passenger side.

This information could be the key to giving the family closure as they remember their loved one.

"Put yourself in our position - you would want closure. Your conscience is going to eat you," said Dennis Teart, Weber's son-in-law.

Weber's family says she was a grandmother who gave love easily with kind eyes and a warm smile.

"She's going to be missed; she really is," says Sadie Zihlman, Weber's mother.
