A grieving family needs the public's help to bring their father's killer to justice.

David Gergel  was driving through southwest Detroit last month when someone took aim at him from inside a black Cadillac on Sept. 6.

Gergel, 45, was there to pick up a deposit for a paint job for a former neighbor at Woodmere near Dix when he came across a black Cadillac stopped in the middle of the street.

After a brief argument, the driver of the Cadillac followed behind Gergel and shot into his vehicle, fatally wounding him at about 2 p.m. The car is described as a four-door, newer model.

Gergel has one daughter, who is 21 years old.

"I don't know how I'm going to live without him," said Chelle Mackey, Gergel's girlfriend. "His murder on top of my son's death, is crippling. I miss him every minute and I cry all day, every day."

"I don't know who the people in that black Cadillac were, but clearly they are very dangerous and callous people," said Rene Cizio, Gergel's sister. "And they are still out there."

If you have any information, even the smallest tip, Crime Stoppers wants to hear from you. It is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest and prosecution.
