Several inches of snow, coldest temps in 4 years coming to SE Michigan

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - Another round of snow is coming our way followed by the coldest air we've felt this season and what will probably be the coldest we've felt since winter 2014 or 2015. 

First things first, the snow will start Monday morning and last through the day before ending overnight. Winter Weather Advisories are posted for most of SE Michigan and a Winter Storm Warning for Lapeer and Sanilac counties. 

The snow will be heavy at times and will create a mess on the roads - so if you can, stay home. Snow totals will be highest along and north of the I-69 corridor with lesser totals south. 

By lesser, we mean it's still a few inches - this is a sizable snow system for all of southeast Michigan.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected during the Monday morning commute.

North of I-69 into the thumb and the Saginaw Valley is where we'll find the 6 to 10 inches of snow. Parts south of the I-69 corridor to the I-96/696 corridor will get between 4 and 8 inches of snow. South of that, between 696 and the Ohio state line is looking to get between 3 and 6 inches of snow.

Then it gets cold - dangerously cold - as bitter cold air pours into the Great Lakes behind this system beginning late Tuesday and lasting through the week. 

Wednesday morning temperatures will be below zero and aren't forecasted to get out of the negative numbers. But the wind chill is going to be dangerous with it feeling like it's -30 or -35. Those readings could be the coldest since 1996. 

With wind chill that low, frostbite can set in as quick as 15 to 30 minutes on exposed skin. 

Thursday morning won't be any different and the days won't offer much relief. By Friday we're expecting a little more snow and then by the weekend, we'll be back above freezing.
