St. Clair Shores diner named one of best in U.S.

- You never have to look very far to find good eats in metro Detroit.

Now, a hidden gem in St. Clair Shores is getting national attention for being one of the best diners in the country. Thrillist, an online media brand covering food, drink, travel and entertainment, just named Travis Coffee Shop one of the 21 best diners in America.

"It's a place where two eggs, hash browns, toast, a piece of sausage, a hunk of ham, and three slices of bacon will still run you about $6 24/7 and where a sack of six cheeseburgers runs $9.50," the article says

The hamburgers are said to be some of the best in Michigan, too.

Owner Mike says his family just celebrated owning the restaurant for 50 years this past January.

"[It] hasn't sunk in yet. It's been a lot of hard work to make it happen and it's finally coming together," he adds. He says his favorite item on the menu are the burgers. He says he's probably eaten a million of them, but he also recommends the Travis Omelette, especially with a little sausage gravy on it.

FOX 2's Josh Landon pays the diner a visit to see what it's all about.

You can watch in the video player above.

The diner is open 24/7 and it's located at 9 Mile Road and Greater Mack Avenue.
