Suspect caught in Allen Park carjack attempt on camera

A 37-year-old Allen Park man was arraigned in a carjacking attempt caught on video Oct. 12.

Earl Joseph Larche was arraigned Saturday morning after being arrested by Allen Park police.

The carjack attempt happened at an Allen Park BP station at the corner of Southfield Road and Roosevelt early Thursday afternoon. The car owner was filling her sedan up at the pump when a man police say is Larche can be seen jumping into the vehicle and driving off.

The owner climbed into the car as it pulled away but the vehicle came to a stop as it circled the parking lot when a Good Samaritan interfered. He stopped the car from leaving and got into a scuffle with the suspect before he fled on foot.

Gas station video captured the incident and Allen Park police released the surveillance footage later that day, leading to the arrest.

On the department's Facebook page, APPD thanked the public for its help.

"The Allen Park Police would like to thank everyone that provided phone calls and Facebook tips. The calls and Facebook tips played a huge role in the apprehension of the suspect. Without the public’s assistance the suspect would not have been apprehended so quickly."
