Tigers Opening Day game postponed due to weather

The Detroit Tigers have postponed Thursday's Opening Day game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to rain.

The rain started overnight and hasn't let up. It's expected throughout the afternoon, too. First pitch would have been at 1:10 p.m.

The game will be Friday at 1:10 p.m. instead. The other games in the series are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the same time.

"Unfortunately the weather just hasn't improved. We were hoping to catch a little bit of a break but that hasn't transpired so we're going to postpone the game," said Executive VP of Operations Duane McLean.

He says this is the first Opening Day game that has been postponed at Comerica Park.

If you have tickets and can't make tomorrow's game, your ticket is also valid for entry to the ballpark at any game over the next 12 months. The Tigers say no ticket exchange is necessary.

For those downtown who are at the watch party at Little Caesar's Arena's Chevrolet Plaza, the concourse will stay open until 11 a.m. Thursday, and will be open again tomorrow for the game.
