Tombstone found in backyard of Detroit home

"What is a tombstone doing in my backyard?

What a great question.

After a family had moved into a rental home on Auburn Street, they cleaned up the trash that had collected in the backyard, they had themselves asking that very same question.

"This whole backyard was full of five or 600 pounds of trash," said Johnny Hernandez, a renter of the property. "And we cleaned it all up, and my wife found it breaking."

The tombstone, which reads "Thomas Cizio" born 1944 and died 2000, was unknown to the landlord.

There's not much known about the man whose name is labelled on the tombstone, other than he did live at the property and was a veteran of Vietnam. What is known is that Michigan law permits a cemetery on private land.
