Truck driver loses control on I-275, slides down embankment onto Schoolcraft

A truck driver is miraculously okay after a scary crash Thursday morning on I-275 in Plymouth Township.

The driver was hauling steel along southbound I-275 when he lost control and left the road, went through the center median, down the embankment and slid onto westbound Schoolcraft Road. The truck then caught fire and was engulfed in flames.

The driver was able to get out though and is safe at the hospital with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, pieces of the semi are scatted all over Schoolcraft Road, which is closed in that area for the investigation.

A HazMat team is also on scene. Plymouth Township Fire Capt. David Fox says there's a concern diesel from the tanks may have entered a waterway next to the road, so HazMat is currently checking that out.

No one else was injured.

The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday. Michigan State Police are also on scene investigating.
