Two killed in crash after Corvette driver flees police in Southfield

- Two people were killed early Friday morning in an accident that happened after police tried to pull over one of the drivers.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. at Grand River and Telegraph, but the situation began in Southfield at 8 Mile and Telegraph when police tried to pull over a Corvette driver.

The Corvette driver didn't stop and eventually rear ended a Pacifica at Grand River. Police say both drivers were killed in the crash.

Police didn't say how fast the Corvette driver was going at the time of the crash.

"It's tragic anytime there's a tragic accident, because they are accidents, but it sounds like it was a normal traffic stop from what I'm being told. If they stopped; this doesn't happen," said Detroit Police Sgt. Paul Warner.

A second accident also took place at the crash scene a little while later, police said.

The driver of a Charger was driving through the scene and hit a Chrysler 200. Police say the driver of the Charger jumped out of the car and ran away.

Police are still looking for that Charger driver at this time, and continuing to investigate both crashes.

Police haven't given names yet but say the two people killed in the crash were both in their 40s.

"Just tragic for both families," Warner said.
