Wayne County deputy transporting prisoner in ambulance kills 23-year-old inmate

A 23-year-old inmate was shot and killed by a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy in Detroit on Friday.

Michigan State Police say around 4:25 p.m., a Wayne County deputy was transporting a prisoner in a private ambulance. The cause of the shooting has not been released at this time.

The suspect was killed and the deputy sustained non life-threatening injuries.

This incident happened in the area of westbound I-94 to I-75 ramp. 

Police say there were no other suspects and there is no danger to the community.
