NBC News announced early Wednesday morning that it has fired Today Show anchor Matt Lauer for what the network is calling "inappropriate sexual behavior."

Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb opened the show Wednesday morning with the announcement. Savannah read the memo all colleagues received from Andy Lack, the chairman of NBC News.

Just minutes after the announcement was made, President Trump reacted to the news on Twitter by asking when the top executives at the network will be fired for "putting out so much Fake News."

"Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack's past!" the tweet said.

NBC News says it received a detailed complaint from a colleague Monday night about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer.

Guthrie read the memo circulated by Lack on-air Wednesday.

The memo stated that, after reviewing the colleague's complaint, NBC News found a clear violation of the company's standards.

The memo did say this was the first complaint about Lauer in his more-than 20 year career with the network, but executives say they have reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.
