Head-on collision kills one, injures another in Garden City
A head-on collision killed one person and critically injured a second on Middle Belt at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Police closed Middle Belt between Cherry Hill and Ford Road allowing first responders to work the scene.
Two vehicles were involved and a helicopter airlift was used for emergency transport. It was allowed to use a nearby church parking lot to land.
Police say a Chrysler Cirrus crossed the center line and hit a PT Cruiser head-on.
One person inside the PT Cruiser died, the second occupant was airlifted to the University of Michigan Medical Center.
The driver of the Cirrus claims a mechanical malfunction caused her to cross the center line.
