16-year-old seriously injured in car-surfing accident in Oakland County

A 16-year-old girl is in the hospital after she was hurt while car-surfing in Oakland County Monday afternoon.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Independence Township Fire Department were called to the 6000 block of Foxfire Circle in Independence Township around 3:30 Monday afternoon.

According to the incident report, the was being dropped off at home after school by a friend, also a 16-year-old girl. She got out of the car and climbed onto the hood of the car as the driver was backing out. 

The driver continued to backup about 100 feet down the road when the girl lost her grip and fell of the hood. She hit the back of her head on the pavement and was seriously injured.

She was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious condition. 

The Oakland County Sheriff's office is investigating the crash.
