A 3-year-old child was fatally injured in a crash on Detroit's east side Thursday night.

The crash happened at Seven Mile and Hayes at 7 p.m. when a woman driving a minivan with children inside, ran a red light hitting another car.

The 3-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle, which had been driving eastbound on Seven Mile, hitting a vehicle driving lawfully on Hayes.

An infant inside the minivan was restrained in a car seat and is believed to be okay. It is unclear if the 3-year-old was restrained.

The mother was arrested at the scene by police suspected of driving under the influence.

The 3-year-old was transported by police to the hospital and died from his injuries.
