A mother's nightmare: Woman who ran over baby in accident shares story

DETROIT (WJBK) - She ran over her baby girl while trying to move her car.

The 10-month old had just learned how to walk and the mother had no idea her daughter had wandered into the driveway. Now less than a week after the tragedy the heartbroken mother is hoping to turn her grief into something good.

"I wish I could just wake up because this is a nightmare," said the mother, Symone Stewart.

Her 10-month-old baby has been gone for four days now. On Monday, 25-year-old Symone Stewart of Detroit says not a second has gone by that she hasn't pictured her baby's face or sadly, that moment she learned she had accidentally run over her daughter.

"In the back of my mind, it plays over and over again," she said.

Describing her heartache as unimaginable, that's why Stewart says she wants to donate her Ford Explorer.

"I'm afraid to drive," she said. "I don't think I'll ever be able to drive again."

Last week Stewart says she was at her grandmother's house doing laundry and preparing to move. Stewart was getting ready to wash her SUV.

"When she put the clothes in the car she grabbed Jada and was playing and kissing her and walking her over to me," said the father Lucious Taylor. "Jada is really active. She wanted to get down and play with the rest of my kids."

Somehow baby Jada, who had just learned to walk, made her way to the driveway Stewart accidentally ran her over and relatives alerted her to what she'd done. Stewart ran to her baby.

"I was just holding her there with all of the blood," Symone said. "And her little eyes closed. I screamed for her to please hold on."

Since that moment, that keeps replaying in her mind, Stewart says she can't help but wonder.

"There was something we could've done," she said. "I will always think there was something we could've done."

And, looking at the car she's only had for a month, a disturbing reminder of her loss.

"I want to donate it to a loving family who deserves it, it is what my baby would want," she said.

Now, Stewart is trying to move on with only memories of baby Jada, she says she hopes her tragedy can even in a small, way help someone else.
