Attempted carjacking stopped at gas station, police look for suspect

- An attempted carjacking was caught on camera at an Allen Park gas station – and so was an act of heroism from a bystander who helped stop it.

Police are working to identify the carjacking suspect in the video which happened at the BP station at the corner of Roosevelt and Southfield at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

A truck driver at the same gas station pulls the young man out of the car, but he gets away by pulling from his grasp and leaving his jacket on the ground.

Video shows the suspect jumping into a car that a woman is filling up with gas. She gets into the passenger side as the suspect begins to drive off, pulling the gas nozzle from the pump, which she had left in the car.

A Good Samaritan filling up a large semi-truck at the same station witnessed the incident and stops the crime by pulling the man out of the sedan. On camera the two grappled before the suspect, who was unarmed, ran off.

Police say there were no injuries but are asking for the public's help identifying the suspect, releasing video and photos of the incident on its Facebook page.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Allen Park Police Department at (313) 386-7800.
