Body of Rochester Hills man found in gravel pit identified

The body of a missing man from Rochester Hills was found in a gravel pit.

Joshua Britton Clark hadn't been seen in weeks and Tuesday night police are piecing together the evidence to figure out what lead to his death.

His family says Joshua would never leave behind his dog or his two jobs. He had been missing for three weeks leading to a GoFundMe page and a Crime Stoppers poster showing the desperation to find him.

The search for Clark ended Monday night at this gravel pit near Hixson and Barclay roads in Shelby Township.  ATV riders discovered his body and called 911.

"My officers got over there and discovered the person was deceased and immediately started a death investigation," said Chief Robert Shelide, Shelby Township police.

A family friend, Hassan Williams with the Metro Community Response Team, said the Rochester Hills man was last seen February 2 having beers at Duffy's in Auburn Hills.

He says Clark got into a car with a woman for a ride home, but never made it and his family doesn't know where she dropped him off.

His family finds it odd that Clark left his cell phone and gloves in the woman's car. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office was previously leading that investigation.

"Obviously they're going to continue with us, it will be a joint investigation until we find out exactly what happened," said Shelide.

Last year this month police discovered another man's body in the same area but that man's death has been ruled a suicide.

Williams adds that Clark, unsure why, checked himself into a hospital the day before he went missing but left before being treated.

The Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office is still determining Clark's manner and cause of death Tuesday. While they may have more answers Wednesday, it could take up to 12 weeks for toxicology results.
