(WJBK) - A Detroit man wrongly imprisoned in China had his sentence reduced by one year Monday night after his appeal.
Wendell Brown has been in prison for nearly two years after a bar fight in China in 2016. His new sentence will end next September. He was to be held until 2020.
Brown has maintained his innocence after he says he was defending himself in an attack, which was supported by video evidence. He was given a four-year sentence last June.
Brown, a star football player from Detroit who played football at Ball State, went to China to coach and teach American football to children.
His mother, Antionette Brown-King, was granted a 10-minute video call with him Monday, seeing him for the first time.
