Some people believe that sports are life but I am not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I love sports but I savor the life lessons more than wins and losses.

If you've been following my Chapter 10 series, you know I believe that Detroit's future lies not in its leaders, but in its people.

And one way Detroiters are saving our city is providing recreational opportunities for children. That's where the East Side Youth Sports Foundation comes in.

It is hosting a Try Sports for Free event Saturday, Sept. 23 in the morning and a fundraiser dinner later that night.

The Kids Clinic is from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. with hockey, lacrosse, golf and more at the Mack Athletic Complex at 4300 Marseilles Street in Detroit.

Joining me are Brian Francis, who started the foundation and Stephanie Gabriel, who is just starting her second season playing hockey for the Bulldogs.

Francis said it is an opportunity for children to try out eight different sports and rotate through them during the day.

At night, the Try Sports for Free Celebration for adults is 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday with a strolling dinner, auction, and live entertainment

The live auction online is already on, go to https://www.wedoauctions.net/puttingkidsfirst to check out and bid on items.
