TAYLOR, Mich. (WJBK) - A house fire in Taylor Wednesday kills an elderly woman and her daughter on Buck Street.
The victims' family and neighbors are still wrapping their heads around what happened, with the cause still under investigation.
A chilling reflection on the tragic deaths of two women after their home caught fire. The Taylor fire department is trying to find out how it started.
"It was real loud like a bomb going off," said neighbor Martin Johnson.
Patrick Winston ran outside to see flames inside his neighbor's home after hearing that explosion. One of the women died inside the home before first responders arrived. Firefighters tried to rescue the other.
"They were trying to resuscitate her when they put her in the ambulance," said Patrick Winston, a neighbor. "They were working really hard."
That woman was transported to Beaumont Taylor where she was later pronounced dead.
"They were real nice ladies," said neighbor Rudy Broadnax. "When I pulled my truck in, they would be out there like clockwork. They would say hello, wave at me, sometimes they would tell me about their day."
Rudy Broadnax says his neighbors had hearts of gold.
"I'm truly going to miss them," he said. "That kind of touched me a little bit to find out that happened to them. They were so nice and so peaceful."
The fire department says the investigation is ongoing they're pretty sure the fire was not caused by a gas leak.
