Man charged with carjacking Detroit police officer near Little Caesar's Arena

A Detroit man is being arraigned in Wayne County on Tuesday on charges that he assaulted a police officer and stole the cruiser before crashing it a few blocks away.

Jerome Adams, 36, was charged on Tuesday with stealing a marked Detroit Police scout car on Sunday in Detroit after he assaulted the officer.

According to the Wayne County prosecutor, Adams was on Woodward just north of Little Caesar's Arena when he dropped his bicycle and ran to enter a running DPD car. Adams is accused of assaulting an officer near the car and driving away.

He made it two blocks and crashed into a hydraulic barricade near Little Caesar's Arena where he was arrested.

Adams was charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery, unlawful driving away of an automobile, receiving and concealing stolen property-motor vehicle, malicious destruction police property and resisting and obstructing.
