Man wanted by police turns self in after lost Facebook challenge

- A man who issued a social media challenge to Redford Township police appears to be a man of his word.

Michael Martin Zaydel had posted on Facebook that if their next Facebook post got a thousand shares -- not only would he turn himself in, but he'd also bring officers doughnuts and pick up litter around public schools.

Zaydel, 21, was wanted by Redford PD for multiple outstanding misdemeanor warrants out of the 17th District Court, and several other jurisdictions. On Monday he made good on his promise and appeared at the police station.

"This evening at approximately 6:30 pm Michael Zaydel made good on his promise to turn himself in to RTPD for his outstanding warrants," said an update on the Redford police Facebook page. "He walked in on his own, and not only did he bring the donuts, he brought one bagel! We would again like to express our gratitude for the support of all who followed this, shared it, and left us positive feedback."

Zaydel, who also goes by the alias Champagne Torino, had posted his challenge on Oct. 6. Police soon replied, writing "Challenge Accepted." It took only one hour to reach the thousand share mark. Redford police then posted a picture of a police woman dropping a mic.

Zaydel is being held in the police department's jail overnight and will have a hearing Tuesday morning at the 17th District Court.
