Manhunt ramps up for murder suspect who cut off tether

A woman murdered, her body stuffed in a closet inside her Pontiac home.

A week later, there is an arrest warrant for Marie Colburn's boyfriend. He's already on parole for manslaughter and cut off his tether.

Now police need your help tracking him down.

"We just want her to always be remembered for her special sparkle and her smile," said Cindy Simmons, Marie's mother. "And the fact that she loved people and animals.”

Cindy Simmons says she'll never find peace again. She had already lost a son in 2007, then Friday, when she went to check on her daughter, 30-year-old Marie Colburn, she discovered her body stuffed in the closet of her Pontiac apartment, beaten, then suffocated to death.

"She's my daughter, she's my baby," said Simmons.

Now it's been a week and her killer hasn't been caught. The suspect, is Marie's on-again-off-again parolee boyfriend 33-year-old Kevin Wiley. He was just released from prison, for a manslaughter conviction in 2005. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

"All we have is making sure the right thing is done by her," Simmons said.

The fugitive was once welcome to family gatherings, now Cindy and her family will stop at nothing until he's caught. Cindy now thumbs through pictures from the past, waiting day after day.

"Somebody has an idea, knows people that he knows," Simmons said. "Please take this information the authorities please."

Crime Stoppers is offering a $2000 reward to anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Deputies say Wiley cut off his GPS tether somewhere in Detroit, and may have taken Marie's car, then abandoned it to make his getaway. Area police agencies and the U.S. Marshals are on the lookout working for the man they say is very dangerous.

"We're just in this holding pattern," Simmons said. "Just waiting. That's all we can do."

Anyone with information on Kevin Wiley's whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at 1-888-TURN-1-IN or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
