Missing 2-year-old from River Rouge found safe

RIVER ROUGE, Mich. (WJBK) - A missing 2-year-old from River Rouge who was taken by his non-custodial father was found safe Tuesday.

A source told FOX 2 that the boy's father gave him to his grandfather in exchange for $500. The boy was not believed to be in any danger but it is suspected the taking of the boy may have been a ploy for money.

Denver Alexander Statton had been taken by his father Steven Miracle Monday from a residence on Pine Street.

His father is not in custody, according to police.

Denver was wearing shorts and a jacket with no socks no shoes and no shirt and had not been fed.  
His grandfather stopped at Dollar Store to buy him clothes and McDonald's before heading to the police station.

"I haven't slept in days," said his grandfather Steven Miracle, Sr. "We already ate and now we're going to go home and watch some TV - and go to sleep."

His son had an overnight visit before investigators say the father left with Denver at about 7:30 a.m. Monday and stole his father's girlfriend's car from the house. 

The father and son, according to his family, are just getting to know each other over the last couple of months. The boy's mother is apparently not in the picture.

Steven's family says he hasn't done anything like this before. Records show the young father has a history of charges out of Washtenaw County in 2011 and 2012, including marijuana possession, home invasion and larceny. 

Michigan State Police issued an endangered missing advisory Tuesday morning.
