MILAN (WJBK) - An Allen Park man is accused of shooting at police, leading them on a high-speed chase and ramming an officer's vehicle.
Sumpter Township police say Michael Willoughby was heavily armed, finding five firearms in his vehicle and several thousand rounds of ammunition with him.
Sumpter Township police released dashcam video showing an allegedly intoxicated Willoughby, 44, being pursued by officers before turning around and driving at one of the officers in Milan Monday.
On video an officer can be heard saying that five shots were fired at officers to dispatch. The officer then notices the suspect pull off before saying "he's turning around," before the headlights point towards the police vehicle ending in a collision captured on camera. Both Sumpter officers suffered minor injuries from the collision and arrest.
Willoughby was allegedly driving while intoxicated, which is one of 13 counts against him. He was arraigned for among other things, assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, carrying a concealed weapon and fleeing and eluding. He is in jail with a $1 million bond.
Police originally responded to call of a possible drunk driver in the area of Sumpter Road near Willow Road. When officers tried to pull him over, police say Willoughby sped off southbound. After officers tried to pull him over, they were fired on five times while heading westbound on Oakville Waltz.
The suspect vehicle continued to the City of Milan border before doubled back towards the officers, at which time the incident was brought to an abrupt end through a collision with one of the two Sumpter Police patrol vehicles involved.
