Second suspect in West Bloomfield murder charged with tampering, acessory

West Bloomfield police made a surprising second arrest in connection to the murder of a woman found in a burning car by an elementary school.

Diana Passerl was found dead last week in a burning vehicle behind the old Pine Lake Elementary School in West Bloomfield.

This week, police arrested Deshaun Smith and charged him with murder and arson. On Friday, a second suspect was arrested.

Jaylen Stringer was charged with evidence tampering and accessory after the fact in connection with Passerl's murder.

"Look at someone's alleged role after a crime and then it leads us to believe that - as the chargees specify - it leads us to believe that they had a role in aiding and support someone's attempt to evade arrest or detection so that's what led to today's charges" Police Chief Michael Patton said.

Patton said Stringer was with Smith when officers arrested him.

Police believe Smith shot Pesserl in the stomach and set her car on fire to cover up the murder. Smith has been denied bond and was arraigned on felony firearm, open murder, and arson charges.

As for Stringer, investigators say he could pay a hefty price for his involvement

"One charge - tampering with evidence - is a 10 year felony in Michigan. The second charge - accessory after fact - is a 5 year felony in Michigan," Patton said.

As the investigation continues officials say they want to hear from anyone who has information about this crime
