State corrections officer arrested selling drugs

A Michigan Department of Corrections Officer  finds himself on the wrong side of the law, accused of selling drugs.

Oakland County Sheriffs say MDOC officer Lawrence Tylutki of Brighton was caught selling prescription drugs at 11 Mile and Middle Belt in Farmington Hills, near a high school.

"It's pretty unbelievable quite frankly," said Undersheriff Michael McCabe. "It gives all of law enforcement and corrections profession a bad name. He's been weeded out and I can guarantee he won't be working for the MDOC anymore."

Tylutki was working at the Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson when police set up surveillance to catch him after receiving information about his side job. On Thursday he was arrested.

"He had just gotten off of work and was carrying a semiautomatic handgun not issued by the MDOC but approved for him to carry," McCabe said.

While he was still wearing his uniform, police say Tylutki fell for it.

"When the transaction took place, we moved in and arrested him," McCabe said.

Deputies say Tylutki handed over 250 pills including 75 Adderall and 90 Xanax.  And in return, he received nearly $1,500.

After arresting Tylutki, deputies searched his car, finding more drugs  - 290 pills - including Adderall and tranquilizers.

Oakland County Sheriffs believe Tylutki had been selling drugs for two years, although he denies smuggling them into the Parnall Correctional Facility.

A state corrections spokesman told FOX 2 Tuesday that Tylutki, who was hired in March of 2015, was on probationary status and is suspended without pay. He is now charged with six felonies including felony firearm.

Tylutki faces automatic jail time.

"He was making a lot of money doing what he's doing," McCabe said. "But now he's going to pay the ultimate price."
