Thief steals $2,600 Cartier sunglasses off man's face in Westland

WESTLAND, Mich. (FOX 2) - A pair of expensive Cartier glasses were stolen right off of a man's face in Westland.

"He rips them off his face and then tries to leave the gas station," said Sgt. Robert Wilkie, Westland police.

Video shows the suspect inside a BP gas station at Wayne and Warren a few weeks ago steal the $2,600 glasses. 

"He tried to do it in a manner where he was already trying to move toward the exit when he did so," Wilkie said.

Wilkie says at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4, a couple stopped into the gas station to use the restroom then decided to buy a few things. 

But while standing in line the suspect can be seen in the video taking them off the man's face.

Wilkie says the owner of those Cartier glasses wouldn’t let them go without a fight but the suspect got away with them.

Forget larceny, police say it is considered strong-arm robbery and the suspect could go to prison for years for this felony.

"He did not try to be secretive or discreet about it," Wilkie said. "It's pretty ridiculous that someone would feel comfortable enough to try to get away with this."

Police say the thin man appears to be about 18 years old, standing between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. He can be seen wearing a "Legend" jersey and light, ripped jeans.
 
"He has some braided hair that sticks up that might be a decent way to identify him," Wilkie said. "I would suggest having some morals and not off of people's faces."
