Timeline: Metro Detroit expected to see 5 to 9 inches

As you plan out your day, a timeline of predicted snowfall across Metro Detroit may be helpful.

FOX 2 Weather Authority Derek Kevra says as of about 5:45 a.m., there's about a half an inch to an inch already on the ground. Plenty of us will finish the day with about 6 1/2 inches - that's a lot of snow. The snow is lighter in Monroe County with the heavier stuff tracking through Washtenaw and Oakland. Wayne County is experiencing some of that heavier snow right now and that spreads into Macomb.

Timing wise - the snow sticks around all morning long, into the afternoon, through the afternoon and starts to come to an end by 6 p.m. tonight. That puts us at 12 hours of snow accumulation.

Then we'll get a break until about midnight, then we get another burst on Saturday morning before Saturday shapes up to be mostly dry. We could see another couple inches on Sunday.
