Free mammogram screenings Oct. 17-22 in Southfield

(WJBK) - It's breast cancer awareness month and UAW-Ford is looking to help local women get screened for the disease.

UAW-Ford is offering free mammogram screenings to uninsured and underinsured women Oct. 17-22 at Northland Radiology in Southfield. Screenings will take place from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. for women 40 and older.

"Northland Radiology is once again pleased to team up with UAW-Ford to help service metro Detroit's community of underinsured and uninsured women," said Northland Radiology Mammogram Technician and Radiology Safety Officer Pam Bradford. "An average of 50 percent of uninsured women in metro Detroit have not had a mammogram in the last two years. When detected early, the breast cancer survival rate is 97 percent."

To schedule a confidential screening, attendees must make an appointment by calling 313-392-7398. Results will be mailed, and will include a referral center in the event of detection.
