Detroit Red Wings Goalie Jimmy Howard joined us this morning to talk about his foundation's event. Watch in the video player above.
The event, Howie's Home Run Derby, is family-friendly and gives fans a chance to watch their favorite Detroit Red Wings players try to hit some baseballs out of the park for a great cause. For just $10, and free admission for kids five and under, fans get a chance to meet Jimmy Howard and some of the Detroit Red Wings players, watch the Derby, and enjoy a Detroit Red Wing Fun Zone, a Kid Zone, music and food.
All proceeds from the event will benefit local families and the charitable causes of the Jimmy Howard Foundation. Howard launched the foundation in 2017 to help local families affected by life-threatening illnesses, and provide funding and support for the research of treatment and cures for various diseases like arthritis and cancer.
The event will take place Friday, June 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. At the Legacy Center Sports Complex, 9299 Goble Drive, Brighton, MI 48116.
Kids and adults can also register to participate in the Derby at Howie's Home Run Derby or http://jimmyhowardfoundation.org/. The cost to compete in the Home Run Derby is $35 per person. Derby participants will be competing in age-appropriate groups to see who can hit the most homers for prizes. Learn more when registering at the link above.
