After police chase, shooting suspect remains at large

Detroit police swarm I-75 chasing down a suspect after a shooting in midtown.

The driver in the black SUV made it to Troy before officers finally boxed him in, in the Oakland Mall parking lot Friday afternoon.

But the suspect caught isn't the person accused of the shooting. She remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

She is described as a black female in her 30s last seen wearing a dark jacket and dark colored jeans.

Police say it all started after a 16-year-old was shot in the 1200 block of Selden.

It all started when the teen was approached by a woman in her 30s and a 44-year-old man. Police say the black male motioned for the young man to come to the vehicle. After he refused, the woman got out of the car, pulled out a weapon and shot the victim.

"The female exited the vehicle, and there was a confrontation there," said Sgt. Michael Woody. "Some words were exchanged, pulled out a weapon and shot our victim."

Police are looking into information that the confrontation may have been sparked by a recent home invasion.

Witness Ryan Harris heard the argument and looked out his window.

"Really aggressive arguing between a man and a woman," he said. "And then I heard a single gunshot, followed by more arguing. And then another gunshot."

The teen was able to run to his family's home for help.

Police soon learned they were looking for suspects in a Chevrolet Avalanche. They tried to stop the vehicle - and that's when the pursuit began

"The Chevy Avalanche fled the scene through the city of Detroit onto the expressway," Woody said. "And ultimately ending at Oakland Mall."

Police say a weapon was recovered at the scene and they took the 44-year old man into custody. But the search for the female shooter continues.
