2-alarm fire at Canton Twp apartment leaves 16 families homeless

CANTON TWP., Mich. (FOX 2) - Several families are without homes tonight after a fire at a Canton Township apartment complex...

The 2-alarm blaze happened at The Crossings near I-275 and Joy Road.

The fire broke out shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday night at the building on Honeytree Boulevard. The flames could be seen burning through the roof.
    
Firefighters were able to get everyone out of the building, but had to take a defensive position fighting the fire. About 16 families were displaced by the fire. There has been no word yet on the cause.

"These are older units, so once the fire gets up into the attic of these units, there is very little to prevent it from spreading," said Joshua Meier, Canton public safety director.
