Campus on alert after armed home invasion in Ann Arbor

A crime alert near the campus of the University of Michigan - as a gun-toting robber breaks into a home, holding up two people inside.

A campus alert went out to all U-M students as Ann Arbor police investigate a report of a home invasion early Tuesday morning at the intersection of south State and Hoover.

Police don't have a lot of information but they say students told them a masked man climbed in through a window. He announced he had a gun and demanded cash.

Judson Hughes lives next door.

"When I read the email I saw that he got in through a window and I checked my downstairs window and it was unlocked so I locked it," Hughes said.

During our conversation with Hughes he told us he is a legal gun owner, something you don't commonly find on U-M's historically liberal campus.

"I told my roommate, I'm glad I'm armed," Hughes said. "I don't know what I would do though if I was in that situation, I wouldn't know without being in that situation."

Police don't have a lot of information, if you know anything, please call Ann Arbor PD at (734) 794-6927.
