Car crash at Dequindre and Davison ejects, kills driver

A horrific car crash has killed one man on Detroit's east side.

The rollover accident ejected the driver, killing him resulting in the closure of the westbound side of the Davison Freeway at Dequindre at about 5 p.m.

The vehicle had been the service drive before landing on the grass embankment before landing upside down into a cement retaining wall, according to police.

Michigan State Police officers and Detroit firefighters were still at the scene one hour later. Investigators believe the driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

"All of a sudden I heard a great big boom," said witness Ava Jackson, who was driving on the Dequindre overpass at the time. "There was a great pillar of smoke. I thought there must have been a terrible accident.

"I drove over the bridge and it was a gross sight."
