City of Detroit celebrates completion of light project

The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) celebrated the completion of the installation of 65,000 LED streetlights across Detroit Thursday.

Over three years of intense work, these new brighter, more energy efficient and more reliable lights have replaced a system that was antiquated and often out of service, with more than 40 percent of the street lights not working.

Mayor Mike Duggan, PLA board chairwoman Dr. Lorna Thomas, PLA CEO Nicolette Carlone and other distinguished guests celebrated the impressive doing.
