Female bank robber says she has a bomb during Detroit robbery

DETROIT (WJBK) - A bank robber is on the run this weekend after she walked into a Comerica and told the clerk she had a bomb when she demanded cash.

The woman was wearing a hat but had nothing covering her face when she walked into the Comerica Bank on Woodward on Thursday afternoon.

"She walked up to the teller, gave the teller a note, which demanded money, the note further stated that she was armed with a bomb," Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said.

The hat wasn't enough to hide her identity as she makes the quick exchange through the bulletproof glass. The teller moves fast and did exactly as asked.

"She did what she was trained to do, handled it appropriate. And because she did that there was no threat to any other customers inside the location," Lewis said.

The robbery is quick, and just like that she's out the door. The suspect was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and now police want your help in tracking her down.

"You can see her clearly while she's at the teller, so we think someone who knows her would recognize her," Lewis said.

The female suspect is described as 5 foot 2, and about 17-21 years old. The bank is offering a $2,000 reward. Anyone with information is urged to call 596-1290 or 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
