Five employees tied up, robbed at Walgreens on Detroit's east side

A Walgreens on Detroit's east side was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday morning by three suspects.

Three armed suspects wearing dark clothing and black face masks entered the Walgreens on Jefferson near Mt. Elliot at about 8:10 a.m. The suspects pointed their guns at three employees, while another suspects forced two employees to the back of the store and ordered them to open the safe.

Before leaving the drugstore with about $3,000, the suspects tied up all five employees. The suspects fled the scene in a light brown or tan Ford Explorer.

Investigators shut down the Walgreens while collecting evidence.

Howard Jones had come to the drugstore to get a prescription filled, but was turned away.

"The doors were locked and they were waving people off, saying they couldn't come in," he said. "I just wish things would get better."

Police are asking those with information to call the station.
