MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (WJBK) - Two women are recovering after being attacked in Monroe County - one of them was raped.
One of those two victims came to the front door of Alison Coy's home desperate for help.
"At 4:30 that's when she came banging on the door," Coy said. "She said 'He's trying to kill me, he's trying to kill me' and that's when we let her in the house."
A 45-year-old woman appeared beaten and battered and claimed to have been raped.
"(She had) some blood on her legs and she had some blood or a bruise (by her eye)," Coy said.
As Alison calls police, the woman tells her about her cousin, a 55-year-old who was also at the house and claims she was attacked by the same man and hit in the face with a sword.
Both women were taken to a hospital. the one attacked with the sword underwent emergency surgery and is in stable condition, the second victim had minor injuries and claims she was also sexually assaulted.
That victim had also run free to a different neighbor's home and called police. In fact by the time Alison called the cops, the 58-year-old suspect was under arrest.
The suspect crashed his car into some trees less than a block from his own home. After crashing into the tree he was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and is being held on multiple felonies.
The suspect who lives in the house on Clayton Street in LaSalle Township is a registered sex offender, convicted of sex with a person under the age of 13.
Until he has been formally charged with this most recent crime FOX 2 is not naming him.
Neighbors say they had seen the 45 year old at the suspect's place on and off for a few months.
