Oakland Co. mother reunited with kids sent to detention center for refusing time with father

An Oakland County mother has been reunited with her three children in what was part of a highly publicized custody battle.

Maya Eibschitz Tsimhoni has custody of her children until Monday morning after being separated for more than nine months. The children are 14, 11 and 10 years old.

Last year, Oakland County Family Court Judge Lisa Gorcyca made national headlines after sending the three children to a detention center for refusing to spend time with their father, Omer Tsimhoni. The children were later ordered to live with their father.

Omer Tsimhoni accused his ex-wife of turning the children against him.The court ordered the children to spend 90 days away from their mother to solidify their relationship with their father. After Eibschitz Tsimhoni motioned to have Gorcyca removed from the case, the proceedings came to a halt, which extended the separation.

Gorcyca since recused herself from the case after ethics complaints. The new judge in the case, Oakland County Circuit Judge Joan Young, issued an order for the children to spend the weekend with their mother, and has scheduled a custody hearing in June.

Young is ordering both parents to encourage parenting time with the other parent.
