Police: Child disappears after staying late at school to play basketball

Detroit Police are asking for assistance in locating missing teenager Jerel Johnson Jr.

Jerel was last seen by his father on January 29, 2016 at 7:45 a.m., after dropping him off at school in the 13200 block of Conant.

Later that morning,
Jerel’s father received a text from him, stating that he would be staying after school for an hour to play basketball. When Jerel's father returned to the school to pick him up, Jerel was nowhere to be found. This is the first time that Jerel has been missing.

Jerel is a 16-year-old black male, 5’7”, 130 lbs., slim build, light brown complexion, brown eyes and black short afro. Jerel was last seen wearing a black shirt, black jeans, black coat with fur on the hood and red and black Nike shoes.
 
Jerel is in good physical and mental condition.
