Police: Wife fatally shoots husband, young son unharmed

Police say a woman shot and killed her husband Friday on Meadowood in Waterford while their young son was in the home.

"That time of morning that's not firecrackers. I could tell. I was two shots - boom, boom," said neighbor Jerry Jenkins.

Jenkins was at his home on Meadowood just before noon on Friday when he heard the gunshots. Moments later a woman called 911 and told police she'd killed  her husband.

Waterford woman to police: "I just killed my husband"

"One officer arrived, approached cautiously as they do," said neighbor Larry Ivory. "Second officer arrived, same thing. All of a sudden, it was a massive response. ... I saw them walk her up to the squad car, she was not handcuffed at the time."

Police say the 51-year-old woman shot and killed her 45-year-old husband in the backyard. Police recovered a semi-automatic handgun and found the couple's young son at the home unharmed. Neighbors say the little boy, who is believed to be 5 or 6 years old, is autistic.

And the family was often seen riding bikes through the neighborhood.

"I just seen the dad and the son riding bikes together. They seemed happy but you never know what happens," said neighbor Andrea Campbell.

The little boy is now with relatives. Police have not released any information on a motive - but neighbors on this quiet street are surprised and saddened and concerned for the child.

"I just hope he's alright - it's sad," Campbell said.

As far as motive, police are not releasing any details yet.
