WATCH: Warde Manuel Introductory Press Conference

The University of Michigan announced Friday they have hired Warde Manuel as their new Athletic Director.

Manuel, 47, played defensive tackle at Michigan from 1986-1989 under Bo Schembechler and was a teammate of Jim Harbaugh's before he had to end his career due to an injury.  He started his career as an Assistant Athletic Director at Michigan before he was named Athletic Director at the University of Buffalo in 2005.  In 2012 he joined the University of Connecticut as Athletic Director where he remained until today.

He is the first athletic director Michigan has hired with athletic director experience since Fritz Crisler took over as Athletic Director  in 1941 and the first Michigan Athletic Director with experience in an athletic department since Bo Schembechler in 1988.  He's also the 13th athletic director at Michigan.

Manuel replaces interim Michigan Athletic Director Jim Hackett who took over for embattled Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon on October 31st, 2014.

Manuel will take over March 14th.
