The Detroit Tigers announced Friday that manager Brad Ausmus will return for the 2016 season as the manager of the big league ball club.

Reports surfaced earlier this month that Ausmus, who is in his second season as manager of the Tigers, would not return for his third year on the bench. However, the Tigers announced he would, in fact, return for next season.

A little more than two weeks ago, General Manager and Team President Alex Avila said a decision had not been made on Ausmus' future and would not be decided until the end of the year. The statement came after several reports surfaced that Ausmus would be relieved of his duties.

Ausmus in his second year as the Tigers manager. He has an overall record of 162-153 with 90 wins coming in 2014 when the Tigers won the American League Central. This is his first manager job on any level after 18 years as a catcher with several different teams including the Tigers.

The Tigers' run of American League Central dominance ended this year despite the team's hot start in the month of April.
