Emergency medical services ride-along

Emergency Medical Services agencies across Michigan—and the nation—are being pushed to their limits as they work to provide life-saving care in their communities. In Detroit alone, the 911 system responds to approximately 168,000 emergency calls each year, placing immense pressure on paramedics and first responders. FOX 2's Erica Francis joined an EMS crew for a firsthand look at the fast-paced, high-pressure environment paramedics face daily. EMS professionals say staffing shortages, increasing call volumes, and workforce burnout are creating challenges that can impact response times and patient care. Despite these obstacles, EMS crews continue to answer the call around the clock, providing critical care when people need it most.
