Jacob Macklis (Oakland County Jail)
ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A man is now facing a slew of charges after allegedly biting part of a woman's ear off and assaulting her children inside a Royal Oak Township hotel.
The backstory:
Jacob Macklis, 23, of Detroit, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent to maim, assault by strangulation, domestic violence, and two counts of third-degree child abuse for the assaults inside the American Inn and Suites on Saturday.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, police were called to the motel on reports of a woman and children screaming for help. When Michigan State Police troopers arrived, they allegedly found Macklis holding the 35-year-old victim by her hair. He punched the woman in the face in front of police before he was arrested, the prosecutor said.
Prosecutor Karen McDonald said that in addition to punching the woman, Macklis is accused of sexually assaulting her and biting part of her ear off. He also allegedly physically assaulted her children.
"The level of violence in this case is shocking," McDonald said. "My heart goes out to this woman and her children for what they had to endure. My office will pursue the maximum charges against this defendant because his victims deserve justice."
What's next:
Macklis is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $750,000 cash/surety bond.
