Man arrested after leaving scene of fatal car vs. pedestrian crash in Madison Heights
Just before 5 p.m. Jan. 29, a 67-year-old Detroit man who had been waiting for a bus on southbound Dequindre Road in Madison Heights, was struck and killed by a gold Toyota sedan. The driver of the sedan, who police later identified as Jala Salim Safah, 30, allegedly left the road and hit Sammie Baker, causing his death, before leaving the scene. Safah was charged with a felony for leaving the scene of the crash, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Safah was arraigned Saturday morning in 43rd District Court and given a $10,000 bond.
